The city’s cornerstone cultural event is the St. George Arts Festival, held every Easter Weekend. The festival is a showcase of the work of top regional artists. It also features live entertainment, food vendors and children’s activities.
St. George is brimming with pioneer history. It is home to numerous pioneer-era structures, including the St. George Tabernacle and St. George LDS Temple. The tabernacle opens regularly for public tours while the temple is closed to the public. However, visitors can tour the exhibits at the temple’s visitor center and stroll through its well-manicured grounds. LDS missionaries provide guided tours of the Jacob Hamblin Home and the Brigham Young Winter Home, two immaculately restored pioneer residences. Visitors interested in prehistory will enjoy the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm, which displays over 1,000 petrified dinosaur tracks, as well as fossilized dinosaur remains. Farther away, visitors can check out a few of the area’s ghost towns, including Silver Reef near Leeds and Grafton, only four miles from Rockville.
